About This Compound

MOTS-c (Mitochondrial ORF of the twelve-S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome. It functions as a metabolic regulator that translocates to the nucleus under metabolic stress to influence gene expression — earning it the description of an "exercise-mimetic" peptide.

Its principal mechanism is activation of the AMPK pathway, the cell's master energy sensor. Through AMPK, MOTS-c enhances glucose uptake, promotes fatty-acid oxidation, improves insulin sensitivity, and increases metabolic flexibility — the ability to switch efficiently between fuel sources.
